Started as a side quest, honestly. A couple of us were tired of seeing indie devs and esports players getting burned by crappy contracts because traditional law firms didn't understand the gaming space. We'd been gamers our whole lives - LAN parties, midnight raids, the whole nine yards - and figured it was time someone who actually played the games stepped up to help.
Set up shop in Vancouver with three attorneys, two espresso machines, and way too many collectible figures on our desks. Our first client was a small indie studio getting screwed on their publishing deal. We helped 'em renegotiate and they launched successfully six months later.
The pandemic hit and gaming exploded. Everyone was stuck at home, esports viewership went through the roof, and suddenly we had more work than we could handle. Brought on four more attorneys who actually understood the difference between a MOBA and an MMO (yeah, it matters in contract negotiations).
We started repping esports athletes full-time, helped negotiate some major tournament sponsorships, and worked with streaming platforms on content licensing deals. Things got real busy, real fast.
Moved into our current digs on West Georgia - bigger space, better coffee, still too many action figures. We're now a team of 12 attorneys plus support staff, and we've handled everything from mobile game IP disputes to multi-million dollar franchise licensing deals.
What hasn't changed? We still game in our downtime, we still speak the language, and we're still fighting for creators and players who deserve better legal representation than the old guard can offer.
We're proud to be one of the top gaming law practices in Canada. Our clients range from solo streamers to AAA studios, from esports orgs to VR startups. We've protected trademarks for games you've definitely played, negotiated contracts for players you've cheered for, and fought litigation battles that shaped how digital rights work in gaming.
But honestly? We're still just gamers who happen to be lawyers, looking out for other gamers who need someone in their corner who gets it.
Look, we're not gonna feed you some corporate mission statement full of synergy and paradigm shifts. Here's the real deal: we want to make sure that creative people in gaming - developers, artists, streamers, players - don't get taken advantage of.
The gaming industry moves fast, and the law moves slow. We bridge that gap. We make sure contracts are fair, IP is protected, and when disputes happen, you've got someone who won't need a tutorial on what Battle Passes are or why loot boxes matter legally.
We're leveling the playing field so you can focus on what you do best - creating amazing experiences and competing at the highest level.
